All about me!

About Me

Deborah Marjoram In 2005 I moved to Australia from Devon, UK, with my husband Gareth and my two children, currently 14 and 12 years. I am originally from Pembrokeshire in Wales. Whilst in the UK I was a police officer for 16 years whilst my husband was in the Royal Navy. This lead to an interesting life! We emigrated for a better way of life and the Royal Australian Navy provided this opportunity for us. I found a new career as an Education Assistant at Leeming SHS Education Support Centre and during 2010 I enrolled as a mature aged student at Murdoch University to embark on a new journey towards becoming a Primary school teacher. I am aware this will be a slow, but hopefully rewarding process. In the meantime I still enjoy getting out and about pounding the streets to clear my head in between all the sports and school activities of my children.

The textbook

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Wednesday, April 27, 2011,
Feeling quite smug now that I went through the textbook and made notes on how we could improve our group work, as when Jasmine was preparing the "Blog" page on our Tech2A website, I had made notes form the textbook giving advice on using Blogs. Our website is coming along very well but feel like we are having to cut out or condense quite a lot of things. We have tightened up our expectations of the students, giving the teacher clearer guidelines on what the students are to produce, and we hav...

Linking websites

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Wednesday, April 27, 2011,
What a day, what a mix of frustration and achievement! Our group, Shimano, Jasmine and I met to put some finishing touches to the presentation and website. Still no word from Tandia so we have powered on without her. We used Facebook to make contact with her and to ask her to contact us as soon as she returns from her trip, funny she accepted to be a friend but no message! We have made the decision that she opens the presentation and closes it, but as she has not been around to experience our...

Endnote essay

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Monday, April 25, 2011,
I am struggling with this item for Ass2b/ Researcher. I have a page with citations in but not sure how to put it together. I have checked LMS for suggestions but today some others have posted the same question. I have posted what Dani informed us in the last workshop and hope this might help them, but the external students do seem to be struggling much more than the internals do. I will just keep checking the forum for further replies.

The Learning Federation

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Sunday, April 24, 2011,
Managed by default to log in with TLF. I initially thought that we had to put our Murdoch Uni email address in ie.deb..@murdoch..., but after discussion in the last workshop with tutor and group, I tried my own home Bigpond email address and this worked. At least I am set up to use the resources for Ass 2a. Must post this info on LMS in case any one else thought the same as me. Couldn't believe Jenni posted the info about the submenus on Yola yesterday, I had thought about it but thought it w...

Music on Google presentations

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Saturday, April 23, 2011,
Started on the powerpoint presentation today and after much searching I now know I cannot add background music to a presentation made using Google presentations. The help option on Google docs going through gmail is outdated. The same question was posed in 2009 and nothing since then. I decided to type "Can I add music to a Google presentation?" in the normal Google search and immediately there are several up to date answers which state that at present it can't be done. Our group used Google ...

Creating sub menus

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Saturday, April 23, 2011,
This web site creation is still pretty interesting and today I became all excited about tidying up my navigation bar by creating submenus, however, when I went to do I found a message stating the style of my site does not support this. It appears that I would have to upgrade to Yola silver to do this, which means spending money on it. At least I was open to the change and willing to try it.

Mindmap upload to powerpoint

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Saturday, April 23, 2011,
I am still having trouble uploading the saved image of the mindmap to powerpoint. The saved screen capture using Jing doesn't seem clear enough so instead I have saved the mindmap using the top tool bar "export as an image". The saved image seems much clearer but although there is an option to have a transparent background once I browse for the image, I can't get it to activate. Anyway, Shimano did mention using paint and I will have to ask her to show me as I keep trying but frustration is g...

Ass 2A progress

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Wednesday, April 20, 2011,
It seemed that we were well on task with our group project, but suddenly the presentation seems much closer. We met yesterday but there is a sense of frustration that maybe Tandia won't actually put her allocated part on the website. We will have to wait and see. The rest of us are busy putting it all together. I finished the actual mindmap yesterday with all our ideas and saved it using jing to capture the image to show our thoughts on the power point, but I can't get it to upload without cu...

LMS replies

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Thursday, April 14, 2011,
Pleased to say that another student found my recommended website of use. Since yesterday I also researched rubrics from the links on the LMS. I keep finding more and more useful websites added to the weblinks. In our Ass 2a we thought of putting a rubric marking guide on for the teacher to use and I volunteered to arrange this. The link I followed was via "Rubrics for assessment". Again, there are so many out there to use. I wonder whether there is a way to download and save all this informat...

EWB research

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Wednesday, April 13, 2011,
Today found me thinking about my EWB resource whilst I had some time to spare at the end of the day at school. For some reason the school computers are blocking my access to everything on the Murdoch Uni website, so some authentic digging is to be done tomorrow with the IT man to find out why. However, a Google search on "Interactive White Board for protective behaviours" brought up lots of interesting sites, I never knew there was actually so much information out there to use for free. I cho...

Week 8 lecture

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Tuesday, April 5, 2011,
I have just come from this lecture, which I think was probably one of the most informative. Jan presented it well but I feel that it woud have benefitted me earlier in the course. I still feel that my blogging has been ok and I am on right track, but seeing some of the slides and examples has shown me the level of input required. As Jan said,"reflection on action" has been shown, or at least I think it has, but possibly I could have added a few more ideas or actually written down what else I ...

Assignment 1b

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Monday, April 4, 2011,
Ok, it seems blogging isn't actually my thing! I was actually enjoying reflecting on what I am doing and how I am learning from the course and applying what I have learnt. Obviously not quite got it right! Happy I did got over half marks but will have to re-evaluate my future posts and become more specific. Already spend a lot of time on this unit and it appears I will just have to step things up a bit more. Not sure how Dani struggled to find my link to iTunes as it is on a page listed on co...

Scope and Sequence

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Saturday, April 2, 2011,
I had the joy of a job to link what we are doing with the scope and sequence for our topic. After highlighting everything relevant I have written it up as a word doc for the moment but must somehow make it more appropriate to the web page. Will show the other girls what I have done on Tuesday and see what they think. Also picked up some useful tips this week off LMS, will create Diigo to collate useful pieces of info for the future. Like how it can be accessed from any computer.
