All about me!

About Me

Deborah Marjoram In 2005 I moved to Australia from Devon, UK, with my husband Gareth and my two children, currently 14 and 12 years. I am originally from Pembrokeshire in Wales. Whilst in the UK I was a police officer for 16 years whilst my husband was in the Royal Navy. This lead to an interesting life! We emigrated for a better way of life and the Royal Australian Navy provided this opportunity for us. I found a new career as an Education Assistant at Leeming SHS Education Support Centre and during 2010 I enrolled as a mature aged student at Murdoch University to embark on a new journey towards becoming a Primary school teacher. I am aware this will be a slow, but hopefully rewarding process. In the meantime I still enjoy getting out and about pounding the streets to clear my head in between all the sports and school activities of my children.

Confusion over 2a/b

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Thursday, March 31, 2011,
Seems there is a lot of confusion out there over Assgnmt 2. I have given a response on LMS and helped someone out who emailed me. It does make me concerned that maybe WE are the ones who aren't getting it correct if everyone else seems to be struggling. As far as I can see it is pretty straight forward on p15 of the unit guide. Maybe it's my imagination though, as I love being creative and coming up with these types of ideas. I expect next Tuesday will yell though when we show our progression!

Yola wouldn't load

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Tuesday, March 29, 2011,
Last night was another of those nights when I could have thrown the computer against a wall!! I had done so much ready for 2a and wanted to put it all down before the workshop today but no, Yola kept freezing on me. I have no idea as the others in my group had no problem. Anyway, turns out today that we have all worked well on our assignment and I think it will all come together pretty good. Showed our ideas to Dani today and hopefully he thought it was going ok. We were asked a few questions...

Text book

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Sunday, March 27, 2011,
I can't believe we aren't actually guided towards particular chapters of our textbooks. I feel I am ok as I do read a lot and today I have read loads which has given me ideas for this assignment. In fact, there are too many to mention. I will add them tomorrow as I have loads more to do tonight, including a sick child. I am pleased to see that someone else is adding to our webpage (Tech2a). I have had a reply from the Australian Olympic Committee to say that we can link their webpage to our s...

Assignment 2a started!

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Thursday, March 24, 2011,
At least with this week being a study week we were able to meet up for a few hours. I suggested in the last workshop that we might use the subject of Olympics 2012. This seemed to go down ok and I researched the scope and skills section. Our meting resulted in our age group, topic, tasks and webpage being decided upon, not bad for week 1 of the assignment. We weren't sure though whether to use the Education site on Yola or the personal site, a quick email to Dani and we are still awaiing a re...

Alphabetical referencing

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Saturday, March 19, 2011,
Yes, I know that referencing is done in alphabetical order, yet I have still acknowledged the iTunes playlist as they are listed. Think this will have to be changed. Will ask on LMS what others have done, although I expect most students have tirned their computers off after this assignment was submitted. Unfortunately my mind is still too active and I am already making notes for Ass2. My group is a lot younger than me but I think this will be good as they will remember what interested them in...

REFERENCING

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Friday, March 18, 2011,
Ha! The word deserves capitals as I feel like screaming! At the end of my foundation unit last year I had no mistakes at all in my essay. I thought I had it sussed, but then came this and now I am going round and round in circles. I know I am too late to check on whether Smilebox is correctly referenced and iTunes, but for now this will have to do as I am under pressure to get this in, get my son to camp and my daughter to netball...all at the same time! Timekeeping must be improved somehow! ...

Smilebox is great!

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Thursday, March 17, 2011,
Well, that was easy! I can't believe I managed to create a photo book so easily. I wish I had found this before. I have posted it to my Facebook page and already family have seen it. I kept the web page with photos of Europe on the site as well because I created this a while ago to show I could upload lots of photos onto one page. I tried to add my own music - "In My Life" by the Beatles but when I went to share it was not free, so I forgot about the music they provided. Next time I will add ...

Second social sharing technology

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Thursday, March 17, 2011,
Rather worried! Have created two pages with all sorts of bits and pieces on but when I examine it closely i don't think all this info is enough. The other task I have been meaning to do for a whil is a photobook for my mum who lives in the UK. We visited her in January after being in Oz for nearly 6 years and followed this with a week in Europe. She hasn't seen our photos yet, so I think I will set to it shortly and will be able to shere the photos with all my family and friends who haven't s...

Authentic tasks

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Thursday, March 17, 2011,
At work today I have felt exhausted. My eyes are tired from computer work, yet I can see the start of this unit paying off. I continued working with the class today (9 Ed support 17/18yr olds) on our web page and boy, was my teacher impressed when I started talking to her about how this was an authentic task and great practice for me. We are using Weebly, as mentioned in a previous blog so again, new to me. Last lesson we created just the initial page which generated a further lesson on Upper...

Comments!

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Wednesday, March 16, 2011,
Just checked my emails and had notification of comments..Yay!!!! Dani found me and has commented on the iTunes problem and my husband has checked up on me from Canberra!!!!! To be honest he has tested the form on the Womrun page under an alias (hello Gretal!!) and it works! This will be good for students to use in the future and I noticed when I joined the site to download the widget that it has an educators spot - must remember! Feeling much happier now and I think that will be all for tonig...

Used Jing

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Wednesday, March 16, 2011,
Just in case the iTunes saga interested anyone, I decided I had put in too much effort to dismiss iTunes as a social resource. I have therefore downloaded Jing as a result of trawling through the LMS discussions. It really was very easy to download. I accessed it through a link one of the students had posted and followed all the prompts from there. I signed in as a new user, watched the demo twice on how to capture and save a screenshot and hey presto, I managed to capture one playlist. This ...

iTunes result

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Tuesday, March 15, 2011,
Workshop today has me feeling good about the site on one hand, yet concerned about whether this social resource is good enough. Ok, so I have created a social resource page to put everything into context, but not sure if it actually reflects the amount of HOURS I have put in! It also seems that the hours I spent creating a running music list on iTunes may also not be  appreciated as I can't link them to web page. Just had an announcement from Jenni I need to look at though about what to do. H...

iTunes saga continues!

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Monday, March 14, 2011,
LMS came back up last night but no one replied! Don't know what all the students in my workshop are doing as nearly all mentioned iTunes. Perhaps it is me, I might be trying to do something past my abilities!! Anyway did have a reply today from a student and Jenny. Looks like I might have to make my list public using Ping and take a screenshot of my playlist. Of course, I have no idea at the moment how to do this!!! Friday looms quickly, and hubbie away, so all house stuff and kid driving is ...

iTunes v Windows media

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Sunday, March 13, 2011,

Ripping CD's straight onto iTunes is much faster and easier. Why didn't I do that yesterday? Decided I don't need to have songs on both systems so will only have them on my new itunes program from here on.

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Sunday, March 13, 2011,
I had a new iPhone!!!! Talked about it for ages with my husband and decided that yes, I can manage it. Still getting a little confused with terms, but on the whole I think I will enjoy it. Just got to keep my kids off it! My husband loves me doing this unit, oh yes, he got one too!

iTunes saga...

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Sunday, March 13, 2011,
I will admit now that I am lazy when it comes to technology. If someone else can do it for me I will let them, and this has been the case with iTunes. To date my husband just sorts it out for me. I tell him what music I want and hey presto the music appears! So, although iTunes might sound like a boring option to those who do it themselves normally, for me it is a whole new area to add to my expertise..LOL!!!! This will probably be a long blog as I explain I did this on Friday evening. I was ...

Feel like I'm sinking!

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Thursday, March 10, 2011,
Well, just finished a different unit assignment and must really get stuck into 1B. Had a very busy long weekend but did keep up with online lectures on Tuesday. Have an idea formulating in my head about this running group thing, but need to research what to do. Really have no idea about linking etc to current page. Presuming that it can all be make believe as don't have anyone here that I would tell about this so that they could use the resource. Will be useful to me though to actually list m...

I posted my site on lms.

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Thursday, March 3, 2011,
I wasn't going to post my details but I have enjoyed viewing other's sites and have been amused by the chat between us older students, so I thought "why not?" Time will tell if anyone takes a look. Also, today I took the Leavers class of 11 Ed support students and showed them my creation. They were amazed! We have started our own class website and they were all so interested and enthusiastic. Unfortunately though the smartboard is linked to a pc not a Mac and Yola is blocked by the Ed dept so...

Blog before submitting 1A

Posted by Deborah Marjoram on Tuesday, March 1, 2011,
Well, this morning when I started up the computer and checked my website I found my husband's comment, so it worked after all! Felt really good. Couldn't make it to the lecture today though as my daughter had an assembly item, so will watch the lecture later. When I returned from the assembly I had some time to spare so as seems usual these days, I took to the computer to conquer Skype!!! I followed the guidelines from the resources posted by the tutors and found it was actually quite easy. H...
