In 2005 I moved to Australia from Devon, UK, with my husband Gareth and my two children, currently 14 and 12 years. I am originally from Pembrokeshire in Wales. Whilst in the UK I was a police officer for 16 years whilst my husband was in the Royal Navy. This lead to an interesting life! We emigrated for a better way of life and the Royal Australian Navy provided this opportunity for us. I found a new career as an Education Assistant at Leeming SHS Education Support Centre and during 2010 I enrolled as a mature aged student at Murdoch University to embark on a new journey towards becoming a Primary school teacher.
I am aware this will be a slow, but hopefully rewarding process. In the meantime I still enjoy getting out and about pounding the streets to clear my head in between all the sports and school activities of my children.
Authentic tasks

At work today I have felt exhausted. My eyes are tired from computer work, yet I can see the start of this unit paying off. I continued working with the class today (9 Ed support 17/18yr olds) on our web page and boy, was my teacher impressed when I started talking to her about how this was an authentic task and great practice for me. We are using Weebly, as mentioned in a previous blog so again, new to me. Last lesson we created just the initial page which generated a further lesson on Upper Case letters! Each student showed their computer skills (teacher amazed as she doesn't accompany them to options) and today they couldn't wait to continue. Each student has now created their own page and are writing up an "about me" page. Hopefully this will be typed up and a photo of each uploaded next week. They absolutely loved it and can't wait to put on photos of themselves at their graduation ball this weekend. Really fun lesson with everyone focused and one I will remember for future teaching. Great lecture which inspired this and has me planning for next stage of our class creation.
